From 7pm today until the 20th of March, Taiwan is hosting the first large-scale OpenStack Hackathon. Organised by the local OpenStack community – including Aptira’s very own Joanna Huang – this three day event is set to become the template for future Hackathons around the globe.
More than 300 attendees have registered, and will be working in teams to develop an OpenStack application focusing on developing solutions for urban challenges in transportation, environmental protection, and climate change. Each application will be presented to a panel of judges who will evaluate each of the submissions and award the top entrant. The total prize money of the contest exceeds TWD 1 million (USD 33,000), and the winning team will enjoy VIP participation in the annual OpenStack Summit in Austin, Texas, USA, next April, with return flights, accommodation, and conference fees covered.
Onsite mentors include OpenStack’s Tom Fifield and David Flanders, as well as Taiwan’s OpenStack User Group leader, Joanna Huang, Aptira’s GM for East Asia. We’ll also have some of our OpenStack Engineers, namely Alok Kumar, Bharat Khumar Kobagana, Bala Gopal and Kumar Lakshman volunteering remotely from India via the #openstack-community irc channel.
